General Mathematician Relativity
Group Theory and General Relativity: Representations of the Lorentz Group and Their Applications to the Gravitational Field by Moshe Carmeli, This is the only book on the subject of group theory and Einstein's theory of gravitation. It contains an extensive discussion on general relativity from the viewpoint of group theory and gauge fields. It also puts together in one volume many scattered, original works, on the use of group theory in general relativity theory. There are twelve chapters in the book. The first six are devoted to rotation and Lorentz groups, and their representations. They include the spinor representation as well as the infinite-dimensional representations. The other six chapters deal with the application of groups -- particularly the Lorentz and the SL(2, C) groups -- to the theory of general relativity. Each chapter is concluded with a set of problems. The topics covered range from the fundamentals of general relativity theory, its formulation as an SL(2, C) gauge theory, to exact solutions of the Einstein gravitational field equations. The important Bondi-Metzner-Sachs group, and its representations, conclude the book The entire book is self-contained in both group theory and general relativity theory, and no prior knowledge of either is assumed. The subject of this book constitutes a relevant link between field theoreticians and general relativity theoreticians, who usually work rather independently of each other. The treatise is highly topical and of real interest to theoretical physicists, general relativists and applied mathematicians. It is invaluable to graduate students and research workers in quantum field theory, general relativity and elementary particle theory.
General Relativity for Mathematicians General Relativity for Mathematicians
Transition from special relativity to general relativity - The basic structure of general relativity, including the geodesic equation and Einstein field equation, can be obtained from special relativity by examining the dynamics of a particle in a circular orbit about the earth. General principle of relativity - The general principle of relativity as used in Einstein's general theory of relativity is that the laws of physics must take the same form in all reference frames. This is an extension of the special principle of relativity. Golden Age of General Relativity - The Golden Age of General Relativity is the period roughly from 1960 to 1975 during which the study of general relativity, which had previously been regarded as something of a curiosity, entered the mainstream of theoretical physics. During this period, many of the concepts and terms which continue to inspire the imagination of gravitation researchers (and members of the general public! Variational methods in general relativity - Variational methods in general relativity refers to various mathematical techniques that employ the use of variational calculus in Einstein's theory of general relativity. The most commonly used tools are Lagrangians and Hamiltonians and are used to derive the Einstein field equations.

The "curvature" of spacetime Mathematicians use the term "curved" to refer to any space whose geometry is non-Euclidean. This principle explains the experimental observation that inertial and gravitational mass are equivalent. Moreover, the principle of relativity to general mathematician relativity.
